Roofline vs Tree Lighting: What Looks Best on Your Home?
This Japanese maple is the showpiece: red branch wrap on every twig, a red-and-white C9 border around the bed, and a warm-white roofline behind it. Most homes look best with both layers.

Start with the Japanese maple. The trunk and every fine branch are wrapped in red LED mini lights, so the tree itself is the sculpture. Around the mulch bed, oversized C9s alternate red and warm white in a curved border. Behind the branches, the house roofline is outlined in white.
Roofline lighting is the postcard. Tree lighting is what people walk over to photograph. Landscape borders are the line that keeps the yard from going dark under both.
Start with the architecture
Most Frey Bros installs begin on the roof: gutters, peaks, and ridges in a single clean color. That is the layer you see from the street at 40 miles an hour. See roofline lighting.
Add a tree when you have a tree worth wrapping
A mature maple, oak, or Japanese maple like this one is a different job. We wrap the trunk and main branches in tight spirals so the structure glows. Bare hardwoods in January look better wrapped than they ever did with a net thrown over them. See tree lighting.
Finish the ground
The candy-cane C9 border in this photo is landscape lighting: a staked run that follows the bed, not a stray strand on the lawn. It ties the red tree to the white roof so the whole property reads as one design.

FAQ
If I can only afford one, which should I do?
Start with the roofline. It is the outline people see from the street. Add a tree wrap the next season if you have a specimen worth lighting.
Do tree wraps work on evergreens?
Evergreens usually get a canopy wrap, not a branch wrap. Branch wraps are for hardwoods where you can see the structure. We will recommend the right method when we design your lighting plan.
